4 October 2012 This month, Dr. Maureen Black, professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, and Director of the Growth and Nutrition Clinic and adjunct professor in the Center for Human Nutrition at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, gave the first presentation in MCHIP's Brown Bag Lunch Series for Nutrition.
4 October 2012 Nearing the end of their first year of implementation, workplans for six innovation and operations research awarded to international NGOs and their local partners through the Child Survival and Health Grants Program (CSHGP) FY 2011 Request for Application (RFA) have been finalized and operations research is underway.

2 October 2012 A newly released report from MCHIP—entitled Interventions for Impact in Essential Obstetric and Newborn Care—captures the highlights of the May 2012 Asia Regional Meeting in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It reviews the remarkable progress being made in the Asia region toward achieving Millennium Development Goal 5 (reducing maternal deaths by 75% from 1990 to 2015), and makes clear that these efforts must be sustained.

25 September 2012 In mid-September, 20 selected journalists from local media were invited by the MaMoni project to visit five Upazilas (sub-districts) in Habiganj, Bangladesh, where work is underway to improve maternal and newborn health outcomes. MaMoni staff were on hand and proud to showcase the project’s work.
12 September 2012 Nearly one-tenth of maternal deaths in Asia and Africa and one-quarter of maternal deaths in Latin America are associated with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. Among the hypertensive disorders, pre-eclampsia and eclampsia (PE/E) have the greatest impact on maternal and newborn morbidity and mortality. Yet the majority of deaths related to PE/E could be avoided if women received timely and effective care, delivered according to evidence-based standards.
8 August 2012 Provision of IUCD in the immediate postpartum period offers an effective and safe method for spacing and limiting births. Use of IUCD in immediate postpartum period is not a new issue. But its necessity and importance are not addressed properly and are underestimated.
