Country Support

DRC
In the Democratic Republic of Congo, MCHIP is building on successes and lessons learned over the last 14 years. The program provides technical support to the MOH, bilateral and other partners to strengthen policy and immunization program management and guidance at all levels, inter-agency coordination at national and provincial levels, and RED expansion and implementation in Health Zones. The project targets for assistance those Health Zones with large numbers of unimmunized or partially immunized children, while also documenting promising practices, raising awareness and advocating for greater attention to and investment in routine immunization.

India
MCHIP works in two states in India--Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand-- and at the national level to strengthen routine immunization systems and build the capacity of health providers and immunization program managers to provide high-quality services. MCHIP technical assistance focuses on improving the planning, supervision, and management of routine immunization services as part of an integrated MNCH package. MCHIP also provides input to the development and implementation of vaccine preventable disease strategies (such as for measles, Japanese encephalitis, rubella control and polio eradication) and assisting the Government of India with its preparations for the introduction of new vaccines.

Kenya
At the national level in Kenya, MCHIP provides technical support to strengthen routine immunization with the Division of Vaccines and Immunization (DVI) and to its partners on the Inter-Agency Coordination Committee (ICC) for Child Health. MCHIP provides focused technical support in the provinces of Nyanza and Western, where efforts are being made to improve the effectiveness of immunization planning and review meetings, supportive supervision, on-the-job capacity building, and monitoring and use of data for problem-solving. In the coming year, MCHIP will also provide technical support for new vaccine introduction (such as the pneumococcal vaccine) and work with DVI to develop a potential model for integrated outreach in at least two to three pilot districts.

Other Countries
Periodic technical support is also being provided to:
  • Strengthen Benin’s routine immunization program
  • Carry out a post-introduction evaluation of pneumococcal vaccine in Rwanda and prepare for the introduction of rotavirus vaccine in that country in the future
  • Develop, produce and disseminate national immunization policies and strategies in Southern Sudan
  • Assess the status of Zimbabwe’s national immunization program and plan for future MCHIP involvement and technical support
