In continuing the work of IMMUNIZATIONbasics, MCHIP provides direct technical assistance and contributes to the formulation of global and regional immunization policies and strategies by conducting special studies and participating in consultations and meetings with WHO, UNICEF, the GAVI Alliance and other partners. Examples of recent contributions by MCHIP staff include:
- Co-authoring a study on the Epidemiology of the Unimmunized Child with WHO
- Documenting past experience using routine immunization outreach for delivery of other health services
- Developing RED manuals and M&E tools in multiple languages and accompanying monitoring plans, trainings, and evaluations with WHO/AFRO
- Documenting experience with the Periodic Intensification of Routine Immunization (PIRI) with WHO
- Developing a Civil Society Call to Action for the GAVI Alliance
- Conducting a Health Systems Strengthening Tracking Study in six countries, also for the GAVI Alliance
- Contributing to the WHO/HQ post-introduction evaluation methodology for new vaccines
- Consulting on the WHO/UNICEF annual country vaccination estimation process
- Contributing to communication strategies for routine immunization and vaccine-preventable disease initiatives (such as. polio eradication) with WHO, UNICEF, USAID, NGOs, and other partners
- Developing and implementing with UNICEF and partners a Communication Framework for Pneumonia and Diarrhoea Control and New Vaccine Introduction
- Conducting an external review for WHO/AFRO of its Regional Immunization Strategic Plan
- Participating on an ad hoc advisory committee on gender and immunization
- Participating on the Vaccine Presentation and Packaging Advisory Group (VPPAG)
- Serving on the Program Advisory Group for the WHO Optimize Project
- Participating on the external panel advising CDC on their global immunization research agenda
- Serve on WHO’s Immunization Practices Advisory Committee
- Contribute to examination of the effect of new vaccine introduction on immunization systems and health systems
