Tigistu Adamu, HIV/AIDS (Jhpiego)

Tigistu AdamuDr. Adamu recently joined MCHIP as the HIV/AIDS Technical Advisor to spearhead integrated care for women and families through comprehensive platforms that address infectious diseases of importance amongst women, children and families. A public health and clinical expert with significant involvement on HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment over the last 10 years, Dr. Adamu is a skilled master trainer in basic surgical and clinical skills, prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, and infection prevention.

For the past year, Dr. Adamu has worked almost exclusively on voluntary male circumcision strategies for HIV prevention. He continues using his training and surgical skills to support southern and eastern Africa in achieving a public health impact from male circumcision for HIV prevention. As a trainer, instructor and preceptor, Dr. Adamu has brought his experience to preservice education (instructional design and faculty development at medical, nursing and midwifery schools) and innovative inservice training.

In past positions with the Ethiopian Ministry of Health, Dr. Adamu assisted in the development of guidelines and training packages on HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment. Prior to that, Dr. Adamu served as a faculty at Jimma University medical faculty in Ethiopia. He was and continues to be an advocate for the integration of HIV and reproductive health/family planning services.
