Healthy Fertility Study: Integrating FP within a Community-Based Maternal and Neonatal Health Program in Rural Bangladesh

Salahuddin Ahmed from MCHIP/Bangladesh presented a poster at the 38th Annual International Conference on Global Health in Washington, DC, about a healthy fertility study that took place in Sylhet district of rural Bangladesh.

The study focused on the integration of family planning with a pre-existing community-based maternal and newborn health program.

Some key lessons learned include:

  • Integrating FP within a community-based MNH program is feasible
  • The model is effective for increasing use of modern methods of family planning
  • There was no notable negative effect on the delivery of MNH services
  • The promotion of LAM had a positive effect on the duration of exclusive breastfeeding
