New E-Learning Package Maximizes Flexibility in Training Today’s Trainers

Throughout the developing world, a shortage of skilled health care providers puts lives at risk. Health care providers who might be able to train others have few opportunities to develop training skills because they are in such demand. Leaving a health post in a rural village or town for several days of training can leave communities and families with no care at all.

Jhpiego, an implementing partner of MCHIP, has launched a new eLearning package that offers the latest training techniques with maximum flexibility for the new trainers of the 21st century. ModCAL® for Training Skills delivers interactive training modules via a flash drive and the Web, and combines them with skills demonstrations and individual coaching by a master trainer. ModCAL includes video demonstrations of key training skills and interactive exercises. There's an increased focus on building clinical decision—making skills and the critical role of assessment in developing competent trainers.

Produced with several funding partners, including the U.S. Agency for International Development's ACCESS Program, this new training skills package is the best of both worlds—virtual and real! A winning combination to strengthen the teaching skills of clinical trainers, pre-service faculty and clinical preceptors, and to groom health care providers to become the next generation of master trainers.
