Dr. Bellington Vwalika is an obstetrician, gynecologist and epidemiologist, and is head of obstetrics/gynecology at University Teaching Hospital and the University of Zambia, where he is also a lecturer. Dr. Vwalika is currently conducting a human resources productivity improvement study with Health Systems 20/20 in collaboration with the Health Services and Systems Program and the Zambian Ministry of Health, and is implementing a demonstration project that will assess the effectiveness of a participatory productivity improvement process in Zambia. He serves as a member of the University of Zambia Research and Ethics Committee and is actively involved in review of research protocols. Since 2001, he has also run the medical licentiate program for clinical officers at Chainama College of Health Sciences, Lusaka. As an MNH Champion, Dr. Vwalika hopes to influence policy in implementing evidence-based interventions in his country and to have an impact on pre-service education.
