Thirty years into the epidemic, many nurses, midwives, clinical officers and doctors in high-prevalence countries still complete their training with insufficient knowledge and skills to adequately provide HIV prevention, care and treatment services. Given that HIV and TB guidelines and interventions are constantly evolving, preservice HIV and TB education programs focus on conveying sentinel clinical skills—such as provider-initiated testing and counseling—to future healthcare workers, and also emphasize the use of technologies to assist students and faculty in staying up to date both during and after their education.
