The President’s Malaria Initiative’s Malaria Communities Program (MCP) supports the efforts of communities and indigenous organizations to undertake community-based malaria prevention and treatment activities. MCP grantees work collaboratively with National Malaria Control Programs, local Ministries of Health and National Malaria Control Program representatives, other local organizations (nongovernmental organizations and community-based organizations), and traditional community leaders and structures. MCHIP builds the capacity of MCP grantees in program design, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation. For each of the 20 MCP projects implemented in 12 countries, MCHIP provides technical support to grantee organizations in their work with communities to increase ownership and use of insecticide-treated bednets, and prompt and effective care seeking, and to promote early antenatal care attendance and uptake of intermittent preventive treatment in pregnancy, and cooperation with indoor residual spraying efforts.
